Federal Reserve Raises Benchmark Interest Rate for Third Time in 2017

Federal Reserve Raises Benchmark Interest Rate

On December 13th, the Federal Reserve once again raised its benchmark short-term interest rate by 0.25%. This was the third rate increase by the Federal Reserve in 2017. With a positive economic outlook for this coming year, the Federal Reserve anticipates further increasing the benchmark interest rate another three times in 2018.1

So, what does that mean for mortgages? If you currently have a fixed-rate home loan, not much. The biggest impact will come for borrowers with adjustable-rate mortgages and Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOCs), as they will likely see their mortgage interest rate increase the next time their rate is set to adjust.

In addition, those looking for a new home loan in the future – whether fixed or adjustable rate – may see higher interest rates than what we have been currently enjoying. While the Federal Reserve’s rate increases only indirectly impact fixed-rate mortgages, historically they follow the momentum of the Federal Reserve’s benchmark rate. So, it’s anticipated that as the Federal Reserve increases the benchmark rate, mortgages will continue on an upward trend as well.

Helping Make the Holidays a Little Brighter for the Children of the Sacramento Children’s Home

Monday, December 18th, 2017

There is something special about being able to make a positive difference in the life of a child in need. For the past 12 years VITEK has teamed up with the Sacramento Children’s Home to provide Christmas gifts for children in the home.

The holidays can be hard time for many of these kids, and we are so grateful to our amazing team that, year after year, continue to make the holidays a little brighter for these children. We are happy to report that our employees stepped up once again in a big way to help fulfill these children’s Christmas wishes. Together, our team fulfilled 60 Wish Stars providing 45 gifts and 15 gift cards to children in the home.

Unsung Heroes: Jen Barth and Camille Cochran – Impacting the lives of our youth

Tuesday, January 26th, 2016

One of the great things about VITEK is our employees…many of whom are contributing to our community in big ways.

These ‘Unsung Heroes’ often go unnoticed for the positive impact they are making. We want that to change, so we are highlighting these special VITEKians and the organization(s) they serve.

VITEK Mortgage Loan Originator, Jennifer Barth, and Administrative Assistant, Camille Cochran, together with their children, are actively serving in the South Sacramento, CA youth rehabilitation program, Always Knocking. Always Knocking’s mission is to “provide at-risk and incarcerated youth with resources, educational tools and experiences to make positive changes in their lives.”1

For the last few years, these awesome VITEKians have been providing mentoring, coaching and development to help teen girls set goals to develop a path to success.

VITEKians Serving Always Knocking

“Working with the teens at Always Knocking has impacted our lives in a positive way, giving us greater appreciation for the human spirit. The participants and leaders’ motivation inspire us. I believe with their confidence, dedication, and the support of Always Knocking, these teens can achieve greatness.”
Jennifer Barth & Camille Cochran

How you can get involved:

To better serve the community, Always Knocking is continually in need of donations, volunteers, financial support, food and supplies. Their after-school program is always in need of additional technology to support the student population that does not have access to technology at home. If you would like to learn more about Always Knocking and how you can get involved, please visit AlwaysKnocking.com.

We would love for you to share in the comments below ways that you are creating change in our community as well. Together we can #BeTheChange!

Unsung Heroes: Daniel Kuchugurny – See a Need, Fill a Need

Monday, June 22nd, 2015

The greatest thing about VITEK is its employees…many of whom are contributing to our community in big ways.

These ‘Unsung Heroes’ often go unnoticed for the positive impact they are making, but we want that to change, so we are highlighting these special VITEKians and the organization(s) they serve.

With all of the busyness of our daily lives, it’s often easy for us to forget that there are over 45 million1 people here in America living in poverty and other needs every day. VITEK Mortgage Loan Originator, Daniel Kuchugurny, has seen this need firsthand and is passionate about helping make a difference through volunteering with the Los Angeles Dream Center.

Founded in 1994, the Dream Center is a Christian based non-profit organization that operates out of a remodeled hospital, offering support to over 80,000 individuals and families each month.2 Every floor and adjacent building of the hospital has been remodeled to serve a specific need in the community.

Through mobile hunger relief and medical programs, residential rehabilitation programs for adults, a shelter for victims of human trafficking, transitional housing for homeless families, foster care intervention programs, job skills training, life skills, counseling, and basic education, the Dream Center works to meet people where they are at, to bring them hope and a way off the streets.2

In the summer of 2014, Daniel Kuchugurny led a group of Sacramento youth down to Los Angeles to volunteer at the Dream Center. Alongside other volunteers and staff members, the team helped prepare and sort food to be distributed throughout low-income areas around Los Angeles and help fill the many other needs of the organization.

Daniel Kuchugurny

“If there is one thing I left with the first time I volunteered at the Dream Center, was how much poverty and hurt exists here in our own country!”
Daniel Kuchugurny

(Daniel volunteering at one of the Dream Center’s food truck distribution sites.)

How you can get involved:

There is a great number of people in our nation living in poverty and with serious needs. Whether you are looking to volunteer, or contribute financially, working together we can make a positive change. If you would like to learn more about the Los Angeles Dream Center and how you can help, please visit DreamCenter.org.

We would love for you to share in the comments below ways that you are creating change in our community as well. Together we can #BeTheChange!
