Today’s Market Color
12/16/2011
Treasury prices are mostly unchanged earlier this morning as market volatility has been suffering without its usual EU headline fix. Yields continue to sit near the low end of the range as news has been limited out of Europe since last week’s summit failed to inspire confidence. This week’s busy US economic calendar ended today with the latest read of the CPI index. Core consumer prices edged higher in November by 0.2% versus expectations of a 0.1% gain. Meanwhile, earnings showed a surprising dip of -0.1% in Nov versus estimates of a +0.1% increase. Currently, the 10yr yield is at 1.908% (1.930% Thursday) and the 2-10 yield spread is at 167bps, flatter by 2bps since yesterday morning.
